PEDAL ORGAN ranks in Great chamber
Apart from using the 16ft extensions of many of the manual ranks, there is
also, in the Great chamber an independent Pedal Trombone 16' with extended Ophicleide 32' with the bottom 12 notes now digitally generated owing to the
fact that there is not enough room in the new chambers for the full-length
pipes originally installed in the previous chambers. Also a 24 note 32 ft
electronic Double Open Diapason was part of the original scheme, but did not
function properly and was disconnected in 1945 or thereabouts. A digital
replacement for this has also been installed. This is extended upwards to 16'
(Open Wood) and then the 32 note Open Wood 8' unit takes over to complete the
trio of 32', 16' and Octave 8'. These digital replacements have been sampled and created by David Houlgate,
the well-known Brighton electronic organ engineer.
